“The points are good. Logically we wanted more but we were third in the championship, now we are fourth so we are still there.
“We don’t have the fastest car, and yet we are one point ahead of Vettel, so we aren’t doing too bad.”

Clearly the driver still matters, and McLaren leads in the points because of it. Massa finishing 7th, Schumacher 4th, and Vettel blowing it (again) makes for interesting racing. The Hamilton pass to overtake Button was fantastic, if a bit more gentlemanly than the Vettel attempt over his teammate. It is shaping up to be quite a season.

The top-of-the-line Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde, which is powered by a 1.75 liter turbo 235 bhp engine, has been selected to serve as the safety car for the SBK World Superbike Championship. Excellent choice, although it tops out well below the top speed of the bikes. It will be fun to see this car on the track.

Lewis sets the biggest gap between pole and 2nd since 2005. It was an unbelievable qualifying lap by Hamilton at the stunning new Abu Dhabi circuit. He has been fastest all weekend, which is not good for Ferrari’s bid for the third place spot in the constructors championship. Kimi and Fisi are starting way back on the grid.

Williams turn to Cosworth engines

Williams F1 makes the switch from Toyota engines to Cosworth, the first team to do so. The supposition is that the move was made based on Williams’ belief that Cosworth will have the most power, since they are the first manufacturer to be able to test their 2010 powerplant. Certainly a bold move, but it will be great to see Cosworth back at the top if this early bet pays off.

Ducati has been a very successful, albeit small in the grand scheme of things, performance motorcycle manufacturer and incredibly successful racing team. A move by VW to purchase Ducati doesn’t seem to make sense, how would this add substantially to their overall bottom line? And it would relegate Ducati to a small concern rather than a strong independent player. Just my opinion, what is yours? The photo links to an article on the subject.
