the story behind my 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint race car
Building a Safe Rollcage (by Jim Hayes)
Having rolled one of these Sprints into oblivion once, I must admit to being
concerned with safety! So when building my yellow Spider and this Sprint, I
invested in a well-designed roll cage to protect me! Here's what we did to the Sprint.

View from the passenger side. Note the
door bars to protect me from side impact and the hoops around the door and
across the windshield.

Looking in the driver's door. The fabricator welded in reinforcements along the door
sills since the sheet metal alone was not strong enough to support the potential stress
in an accident.

The seat mounts in a protected cell.

The cage is cross braced in several directions. The fuel cell mounts in the trunk in a
reinforced mount for safety.
Coming real soon: Mike's continuation of the race preparation!
